Australia experienced rapid population growth in the years 2006-2009, but the rate of growth has declined since reaching its peak in 2008.
The estimated population of Australia at 30 September 2011 was 22,696,000 persons, an increase of 319,600 since 30 September 2010.
The annual growth rate was 1.4% in 2005, 1.6% in 2006, 1.9% in 2007, 2.2% in 2008, and 1.8% in 2009. In 2010 Australia’s population grew by 1.4%. For the twelve months ended 30 September 2011, the growth rate was an estimated 1.4%.
