Undergraduate Arts Internships

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements give you the opportunity to undertake a role in an organisation, learn new skills, build new contacts and networks, and consolidate your learning through reporting and reflecting on your experience.

  • Get academic credit. Undergraduate students are able to complete either 6 or 12 credit points through their internship unit. These units are available during semester or during summer or winter breaks, reducing your course load during the semester.
  • Expand your major. Subject to approval, you can use an internship unit as part of your major, or you can choose to do the unit as an elective.

Internship features

  • Available to domestic and international students
  • Available in a wide range of host organisations, including for profit and not-for profit
  • Includes academic assessment activities
  • Available in Semester 1 and 2, Winter Semester, Summer Semester A & B (2019)
  • Duration: Minimum 75-100 hours (6-credit point unit) or 144 hours (12-credit point unit)

Units and Eligibility

Each internship unit has a different set of eligibility requirements:

International Students

  • International students undertaking paid internships

Students are permitted to work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when their course is 'in session', and unlimited hours when their course is 'out of session'.

  • International students undertaking unpaid internships

An internship that is formally registered as part of your course, is not included in the 40 hours per fortnight limitation.

Prior to accepting any paid placement, international students should check their work rights on their individual student visa to ensure they remain compliant with visa conditions at all times. More information about student visa conditions can be found on the Department of Home Affairs website.
