Sessional Expression of Interest

The Faculty of Arts is now seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and experienced individuals. Register to be part of a sessional pool to teach and/or access in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Faculty.

Only those who have submitted a new EOI for 2019 will be considered for sessional teaching in 2019. If you have already submitted an EOI for 2018 you are not required to resubmit, however you may update your original EOI.

EOI Requirements

Before commencing your application, ensure you have the following information:

  • Contact Details
  • Working with Children Check / VIT Registration (DETAILS BELOW)
  • Qualified Teaching Area (maximum of 3 areas)
  • Teaching Experience
  • Student Evaluations (upload into EOI)
  • Preferred Arts Teaching Unit/s (refer to relevant Area of Study link and teaching units)
  • Availability
  • HDR Restrictions – Permission from main supervisor – DETAILS BELOW (upload into EOI)

New interested sessionals also need:

  • Work Eligibility
  • Deemed Equivalence – DETAILS BELOW (upload into EOI)
  • CV (upload into EOI)

Current sessional staff please note:

Monash HR has your original application details including eligibility, sighted qualifications etc. These will not be required again if you apply using your existing Monash applicant login. These questions have been removed from the requirements of your EOI. Please contact Access HR on 9902 0400 if you need any assistance with this.

EOI Submission

EOI’s can be submitted in three rounds as follows (Note: you only need to submit once):

Sunday 19 May 2019 – Midnight AEST
Sunday 16 June 2019 – Midnight AEST
Sunday 7 July 2019 – Midnight AEST

At the close of each round, your information will be forwarded to the relevant program tutor coordinator who will consult this register when filling any vacancies for sessional staff positions for their teaching programs.

You will receive a confirmation message upon submission.

Note: Candidates will only be contacted by the relevant program coordinator prior to the commencement of the semester, should teaching positions arise in their areas of interest and expertise where there is an appropriate match of their skill base, disciplinary background, and availability.

Registering means that you are interested and available for sessional work, but does not mean that you are employed.

The rates of pay for sessional staff are set out in the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and Professional Staff) 2014

Additional Requirements

Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Successful EOI's may require a Working With Children's Check (WWCC). This will be confirmed at the time of offer and the process will be communicated to you.

HDR Restrictions on Teaching

If you are currently enrolled as a HDR student, or will be enrolled in semester 2 2019, you may teach a maximum of 6 hours per week in a maximum of 1 unit at a time. You must have written permission from your supervisor to take on a given teaching load - eg a PDF of an email from your MAIN supervisor. Sessional positions should not interfere with your graduate research studies. You will not be able to apply for extension to candidature using sessional employment reasons.

Language disciplines

These will be assessed for Language Statement of Equivalence prior to selection. Coordinators will contact you to arrange if applicable.

TEQSA/Deemed Equivalence

TEQSA (Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency) introduced revised standards as of 1 Jan 2017 which require positions that involve teaching to have qualifications at least on AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) level higher than the program being taught or Equivalent relevant academic and professional or practice-based experience is required.

The revised standards require universities to establish a defensible framework for assessing whether a person, who does not have the required level of qualification, can be deemed to have the equivalent to the AQF standard and to record the decision. This is only relevant to the following disciplines and will require the Arts Academic Deemed Equivalence CV be completed and uploaded within the online form.
