The Yiddish speaking immigrants were prominent in every aspect of communal governance, contributing their energies, intelligence and abilities to the Jewish welfare organisations, to the establishment of Jewish schools, to the communal roof body – the Victorian Jewish Board of Deputies, to Holocaust commemoration and to the synagogue network.
