Dr Andrew Johnson
My doctorate is in literary studies and philosophy and have been teaching in various language and learning roles since 2002. I have a strong teaching and research focus on writing, and I am also interested in cultures of learning and the way we learn to use language in different social and professional contexts.
As well as teaching and coordinating units in Academic and Professional Writing, I teach a 2nd and 3rd year on career development (linked especially to professional communication); supervise HDR students from a range of programs (focusing as part of supervision teams on helping students to develop as academic writers), deliver HDR writing workshops for Arts students, and have developed an online academic english program for all Monash students (Ascent).
My current research projects include looking at encouraging and assessing class participation as part of developing professional capacities, comparing approaches to curriculum development in writing, and critical study of ‘communication’ as a graduate attribute.
