A degree for today’s media world
This is the first degree of its kind in Australia, offering an unparalleled mix of practice-based learning, theory and portfolio development. You’ll learn to focus on new ways of doing things, to challenge convention, and devise solutions that will take us into the next century.
Building on a selection of core units unique to this degree, you have the flexibility to then tailor the course to your interests by choosing your specialisation, and 8 free electives. In your third year, you can choose to either undertake an internship, or take on a major project in your area of interest.
There are five specialisations to choose from. If you’re not sure which to pursue, you can start with two specialisations in first year, and make a decision in second year.

These relationships provide internship opportunities where you will gain valuable work experience, and also provide the course with guest lecturers who share their expert professional knowledge and advice.
The Bachelor of Media Communication Advisory Board
Our advisory board members are media practitioners from leading media organisations and provide key connections to industry networks. Our annual BMC welcome lecture is a great opportunity for our students to talk to industry experts and gain insights and about the media landscape.
Final year internship or professional project
In your final year you'll have the opportunity to bring together your in-depth knowledge and skills with either an internship or professional project.
The Monash Media Lab
Graduate with a portfolio that will make you stand out. Core to this degree is developing your practical experience by building a portfolio of real work throughout your course.
Using the world-leading Monash Media Lab facilities you’ll be completely immersed in technical camera skills, lighting techniques, scripting, video editing, colour grading and more. From a documentary or short film, to a radio program or digital marketing campaign, you'll have a rich portfolio by the end of your degree for potential employers.
