Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Publication Award (PPA)

Overview of the scheme

The Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Publication Award (PPA) scheme provides financial support for Arts graduate research students who have submitted their thesis for examination and wish to write up some of their research for publication while waiting for the examination results.

The aim of the scheme is to encourage students to disseminate research findings to the wider public through publication in professional journals or books. The scheme is not intended to provide financial support to students who have not yet submitted a thesis, or to former students whose thesis has been accepted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the research degree.

The scheme will provide a stipend (taxable) equivalent to the stipend rate of the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) for a maximum period of 12 weeks whilst under examination.

The Arts PPA is available to graduate research students who have applied for a Monash University Postgraduate Publication Award in one of the four annual rounds as listed in the table below. The award can only be taken up when the thesis is submitted.

Applicants must have at least one paper published, in press or accepted at the time of applying and one further manuscript submitted.

Priority is given to student who submit within 42 months (full-time equivalent) of commencing a doctorate or 24 months (full-time equivalent) of commencing a research master’s. The FTE time spent on a master’s is included as FTE time toward a doctorate for students who transfer from a master’s program to a PhD.
