Public Lecture and Panel with Prof Piquero ‘THE IMMIGRATION-CRIME MYTH’
In partnership with the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology (ANZSOC), ANU and Monash Criminology, the Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre (MMIC) is proud to host Professor Alex Piquero to present a public lecture on ‘The Immigration-Crime Myth’ followed by a panel discussion with reference to the Australian context by academics and practitioner experts who are working in this field.
Few issues in public policy are as contentious as that surrounding the relationship between immigration and crime. Despite policy rhetoric indicating a strong linkage between the two, social science evidence shows otherwise. This presentation will review findings from several studies examining immigration and crime among samples of juvenile offenders in the United States.
