Official Launch of Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre
Missed our Centre launch on 4 October? You can now watch a recording on our Community Engagement page.
On 4 October 2018, the Hon. Marcia Neave AO, Commissioner of the Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence and former Justice of the Victorian Supreme Court of Appeal launched the Centre and spoke about the challenges and opportunities of reforming the response system and working towards sustainable change to end family violence. The Centre signals Monash University’s commitment in response to the rising awareness of family violence as the most common form of violence against women and the momentum towards transformative change arising from Victoria's landmark Royal Commission into Family Violence. The Centre will provide a platform for academic experts to collaborate with governments and the social, legal, health, and criminal justice sectors to address one of the world’s most challenging social problems.
Dr Christine Nixon APM also launched the newly released edited collection, Intimate Partner Violence, Risk and Security: Securing Women’s Lives in a Global World. The book, edited and contributed to by academics at the Centre, brings together experts from around the world to share insights on intimate partner violence as the most common type of violence against women and family violence.
Thank you to everyone who attended the launch and Professor Sharon Pickering, Dean of Arts, for MC'ing the event.
