The program has established strong collaboration with a range of industry bodies, international organisations, associations and government agencies. These, along with cross-faculty partnerships, allow our students to undertake professional internships in a range of areas.
There are two specialisations within this area of study:
This specialisation will equip you for work in areas where written translation and writing skills are required, such as literary and cultural translation, cross-cultural communication, business, law, science and technology, publishing, editing and journalism. This stream also focusses on research methodologies for those who want to pursue doctoral studies in translation studies.
Interpreting and translation
This specialisation will equip you for work in areas where interpreting (oral translation) and cross-cultural skills are required, such as in healthcare, law, business and education, as well as in diplomacy, international meetings and conferences. Training is bi-directional and in two languages. Prospective students must be highly proficient and able to fluently converse in both.

We offer a Master by Coursework in Translation and Interpreting studies (MITS), one of the few courses in Australia endorsed at the at the highest possible levels including:
Practicum and internships
Practicum is embedded into the certain units in the master's course, so you'll gain real world experiences and a better understanding of how theory relates to practice.
