Faculty/Division: Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub
Dept: Media, Film and Journalism
How long have you worked at Monash?
I formally started here in February 2019, though I enjoyed a three-month internship position beforehand with the Hub.
Where did you work prior to starting at the University?
I worked as a digital producer at the Australian Conservation Foundation in Carlton.
What do you like best about your role?
I like the interdisciplinary nature of working at the Hub. In my role, I coordinate the work of climate scientists, mass media and science communicators.
Why did you choose your current career path?
I want to contribute to a cultural shift in Australia through which communities, businesses and governments prioritise the environment and action on climate change.
Local babysitter and nanny, which sustained my lifestyle from age 14 to 19.
A 6-month stint in telemarketing.
What research/projects are you currently working on and what does it involve?
I’m managing the Hub’s project Changing Climates: Community newspapers as climate educators. In collaboration with Leader Local Newspapers, the MCCCRH will deliver weekly localised climate graphics in the 26 mastheads across metropolitan Melbourne, along with Australia’s first ever dedicated climate column, Changing Climates. The program will source local climate data from 11 weather stations across the city which will ensure that each of Leader’s 1.6 million weekly readers will receive climate information particular to their local area.
What is your favourite place in the world and why?
The south coast of Mexico (known as la Rivera Oaxaqueña) for the incredible culture, beaches, food and price.
What is your favourite place to eat and why?
Any local cheese and wine festival (no explanation needed).
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Everyone has imposter syndrome – fake it until you make it.
Tell us something about yourself that your colleagues wouldn’t know?
I’m a Richmond Tigers fan. Invite me to your tipping comp!
