In Search of India: The Louise Lightfoot Exhibition and Book Launch

In Search of India will feature the official launch of Dr Amit Sarwal’s new book Louise Lightfoot in Search of India: An Australian Dancer’s Experience. Based largely on documents held by the Music Archive of Monash University (MAMU), Louise Lightfoot in Search of India tells the story of Australian dancer and producer, Louise Lightfoot and her work researching and touring with traditional Indian dancers in the early to mid-20th century. The launch will be conducted by Ms Manika Jain, Consul General of India in Victoria and feature music and dance performances by Mohit Pandit and Gangotri Roy.

The book launch will be complimented by an exhibition comprising selections from the Louise Lightfoot Bequest housed at MAMU. Launched by Professor Cat Hope, head of the Sir Zelman Cowan School of Music, the exhibition opening will also include a Q&A panel session featuring Professor Emeritus David Walker (Deakin University), Emeritus Professor Margaret Allen (University of Adelaide, Dr Amit Sarwal (book editor and producer, SBS Radio) and Mary Louise Lightfoot (niece of Louise Lightfoot and author in her own right). Light refreshments will be provided.
