Professor Guy Geltner of the University of Amsterdam delivered a public lecture sponsored by the School of Philosophical, Historical & International Studies and the Body in the City Arts Focus Program in April 2018, arguing persuasively that concepts and practices of public health existed in many cultures long before modernity, and should be decoupled from the narratives of progress associated with the modern.

Relive or catch up on his fascinating reflections on Premodern Public Health: The End of an Oxymoron.

Note, the lecture begins at time point 22:50.
