Monash SOPHIS Professor Rob Sparrow and Adjunct Associate Professor Mark Howard have been shortlisted as a finalist for the ITS Australia National Awards.
The nomination for the Research Award is for their paper: Monash University – When Human Beings are Like Drunk Robots: Driverless vehicles, ethics, and the future of transport.
By applying expertise in the ethics of new technologies (AI and Robotics) to ITS, Monash University research generates new knowledge, revealing the radical implications of a driverless future on public safety, the environment, urban planning, and transport policy. Vitally, the University’s investigation spotlights key ethical challenges facing the future of ITS, providing guidance by way of policy and legislative recommendations.
Awards will be presented to winners on the evening of Thursday 23 November at The Pavilion, Artis Centre Melbourne.
