Associate Professor Therese Davis recently visited Jakarta on 5-7 September ahead of the launch of the Faculty of Arts' new Bachelor of Media Communication degree. In addition to visiting Monash Diploma of Arts students at JIC, and UNSW diploma students at UNIPREP, Associate Professor Davis visited two universities: Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) and BINUS University.
UMN rolled out the red carpet for Associate Professor Davis, who delivered a public lecture on Issues in Global Media: Fake News to an audience of over 100 communications & journalism students. Additionally, dialogue was opened on a potential collaboration & MOU. A return visit to UMN is planned at a later date with the Head of Media, Film & Journalism Associate Professor Mia Lindgren.
Meetings with BINUS University were also positive with future collaboration opportunities explored, including a potential credit articulation arrangement.
Another highlight of the trip was a joint initiative between Monash Arts and NET.TV, a Media & Communication Experience Day, that offered an industry day to Year 11& 12 students. This Monash first provided insight into what it takes to access the media industry via our Bachelor of Media Communication and what takes place once in the industry. It culminated in a tour of NET.TV facilities where students were able to witness TV programming in action.
