Australia’s sign language users analysis

Demographic information on the signing Deaf community has typically been inaccurate, despite its importance for funding applications and the service provision of deafness support organisations around Australia. Cross-matching census data from three censuses with related information enabled a model to be developed that provides a more accurate overview of the signing Deaf community. Reports based on the research are now used by the Australian Federation of Deaf Societies to support successful funding applications and inform key operational decisions, such as branch locations and improving service delivery in regional towns.
